Lukas Keagy Story

Mr. Lukas Keagy has been an integral part of the Upper Campus staff for nine years,
having taught at Providence Academy since his 2012 graduation from John Brown
University. Mr. Keagy received his Bachelor's of Science in Education: Secondary
Social Studies Education from JBU, where he graduated summa cum laude. He has
served in Student Life for the last five years and teaches 10th and 11th grade History,
12th grade Government, Economics and some electives.

“All these subjects are my passion,” he explained. “I love History in general because it is
the story that makes sense of ours, and specifically at Providence because we
encourage a chronology-teaching of history coupled with its understanding anchored
completely in the Larger Story of God at work in the world. Economics is my nerd-
passion, and I love to teach the way it works as a logic cause and effect and impact on
the world. It's a lost understanding, in many ways. Finally, Government is where I get to
truly show the technicalities of what happens in government: beyond the theory, we get
into the nitty gritty and nuts and bolts in a way that helps students really know what
goes on in the wheelhouses of the policy-makers.”

Mr. Keagy said his favorite part of teaching at PCCA are the students and their families,
and his ability to play a small part in the Lord's work of drawing them closer to Him. “I’m
most passionate about the coming Kingdom of God and the beginning of the true life
that we were meant to live!” he said. “To that end, my passions in teaching are inspiring
students to truly know that true life is found in the Lord, true relationship with Christ, and
true hope in the coming Kingdom.”

Mr. Keagy believes the Providence community is what sets it apart. “There is a truth to
the phrase, ‘family of Providence’ - a unity among the school community that is special.
As a teacher, I truly feel cared for and loved at Providence.”

He and his lovely wife, Anna, have three children: Cameron (6), Patrick (4) and Evie
Hope (1). When not teaching, he loves to write, read, garden, hike and mountain bike. A
fun fact about Mr. Keagy is that he grew up on the mission field in the jungles of Peru,
South America (and later in the capital city, Lima). He has written and is now revising a
5-book fantasy fiction series, and is also working on a non-fiction book.

His favorite scripture is currently Ephesians 2:4-7: “But because of his great love for us,
God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in
transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ
and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the
coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his
kindness to us in Christ Jesus.”
