Welcome to the Providence Patriots sports program. As an independent, college-preparatory school, Providence Academy seeks to provide a competitive interscholastic sports program. It is our desire that while students are part of the academy, they will participate in athletics and extracurricular activities. As students progress at Providence Academy, the goal of the athletics department is to use athletics as a tool to help students grow in their spiritual walk with Christ, compete against other schools, to be challenged as an individual and learn to work with others to achieve goals as a team. We are very excited to be able to offer an ever-growing list of different sports for students to participate in both the lower and upper school. In the lower school, athletes will learn the fundamentals of their sport and what it means to be a part of a team. Student-athletes will play in every game as coaches desire to see them both developing as a player and having an enjoyable experience. While winning is certainly a rewarding experience for all players, it remains a secondary focus in the lower school.
At the upper school, however, we play to develop a Christ-like character and to win championships. Players in the upper school learn to master the fundamentals of the game on the practice and playing fields. Playing time at this level is solely at the discretion of the coach, and student-athletes learn to sacrifice personal ambitions for the good of the team. A key cornerstone of Patriot athletics is to be committed to an athletics program that is focused on the developing student-athletes' Christian character. Our coaches and parents must lead by example, and support of this philosophy on and off the field is paramount to training the student-athletes. As part of our mission statement, the athletics department will work to build a Christian worldview throughout every school-sponsored activity.
In Christ,
Austin Bivens
